Define "Sandwich"

Today at work we had our monthly birthday party and a few people made ice cream sandwiches out of the chocolate chip cookies and ice cream we had as part of the array of desserts available.  So, it reminded me of what I used to do with my siblings when we lived in Hawaii.

We were latch key kids with both parents working and/or going to school.  Mom would usually call us mid-afternoon to check up on us. Inevitably one of us would complain that we're hungry and wanted something to eat, so mom would always tell us to go make ourselves a sandwich.

Well, define "sandwich" ... according to Webster's dictionary a sandwich is " two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between." Doesn't say what the filling HAS to be, so our favorite was NEAPOLITAN ICE CREAM! Why choose one flavor when you can have the three basic  flavors of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors in one container? Don't judge me!

And before you make faces at this, let me just tell you that in Indonesia you pay extra to have bread with your ice cream! I'm sure it wasn't what mom had in mind, but oh well ... Ahhh, childhood ...

Here's a thought - Neapolitan on french toast! That could be really good...

Fun post! Just gets the creativity in me a-whirring. :-) My mind will, for sure, come up with all kinds of sandwiches for my kiddos now.

@Tracie: I guess you can do that. I like it just fine on white bread.

@Kara: Let me know what you come up with. I replied to your comment on fb and said that in Indonesia they also put sweetened condensed milk or chocolate syrup on bread and add sprinkles. Yeah, really sweet ...

Am I imagining things or is that neoplitan bread that's holding the vanilla ice cream?? It doesn't look like plain white bread. :)

No, you're seeing right, Angel. I couldn't find a picture of white bread with neopolitan ice cream, so I had to settle for this one. Somehow buying a whole loaf of bread and container of ice cream just to take the picture sounds so wrong at my age ...
